There is a limit to all Good and Bad things.

All good things must come to an end right? Well I am almost positive that many of us in the coxing community have found ourselves in the position where you feel that your "superiors" (coachs etc) are a bunch of nut jobs and you just want to quit the sport.I am in that position right now with the stupid winter season of having my coachs more or less ignore me. Like I am not even going to the practices cause all I do is take attendence then help my crew work out and count reps and what not.

BooOoooORRrRrrRIIIiIIiNNnNNNGGGGG!!

A feeling I'm very sure many coxies living in COLD places are handling right now !! =)

Well, No matter how hard I try and how much I do, I'm still bored out of my skull and to make it worse...my "head" coach is on a power trip.

So really how much is Too much? I'm still not really sure, and Im sure that year after year I will keep asking myself this, and Keep doubting how much I Love this sport. Untill that fist time back on the water, as you push off the dock, then there is not doubt. GOD IM EXCITED. ahah but of course if I get accepted to a univeristy somewhere warm...yumm no more of this sillyness!!

I guess what I am trying to say is that, for some of us, yes its a long lonnnggg winter (especially in Canada) But you love the sport, so stay true.

Row it Till the End!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I'm not really sure what to say about your coach being on a power trip but, the best thing to do may be to talk to s/he about what you could do. In the winter, I generally oversee the erging and help with the rower's technique on ergs. When I'm not doing that, I work out. I don't know where you do your weight training but you could erg, lift weights, or use machines. Winter training is just something we have to deal with. Most of us weren't blessed with living somewhere where its (almost) always warm. I'm feeling the cold winter in ohio, its been 20° or less outside EXCLUDING wind chill. I can't even think about getting back on the water until the river dethaws and the docks get put back in. The best of luck to all of us in cold places.

Well, i did that last year, i worked out like crazy 'cause i was convinced by my friends on the crew that it would help me get a good crew in the spring/summer. big mistake. i was ignored by the head coach come summer and i ended up with the worst crew. this winter i am taking it easy and skiing and stuff, i say wait for them to come to u!! if u bust ur butt working for them and get nothing in return, something has to change!plus it has been like -30 here, so no i cant even think about rowing(or going outside)

I cox in Cleveland, Ohio right now it is -6degrees here. I can understand the cold thing. About coaches ignoring you. I have found that it is easier to bond with your rowers after practice or around practice times so that you can get a feel for what they need. I am at practice everyday with them. Yeah I do a lot of standing around but I also get in my own cardio thing going on. This makes it easy for me to see what motivates different ones in different ways. Something I don't always have to privledge to do on the water because I am focusing on the total boat and not each and every rower each time. It does get easier. Sometimes it just takes talking to your coach and voicing what you might need. I have coxed in two different countries and with many different styles of coaching and I find that rowers are all alike, they need to know that their cox is on the same page with them.
