Kia Ora is Maori, for hello. I live in New Zealand, which is a little island in the Pacific Ocean, by Australia. Maori is a native language of my country. I suppose I should start off my first article with a little bit about me. I live in New Zealand and I Cox for the Hamilton Rowing Club as well as my school - Hamilton's Fraser High School. In New Zealand there are two rowing "systems". The first - the club system is the one that I am particularly involved with. This is for people who chose to represent their club at regattas. We have many different rowing clubs in New Zealand and National Champs are held once a year at either Twizel or Karapiro. I live near Karapiro so during the season I have lots of practise at the course and we sometimes practise there. The club system goes Novice, Club, Senior and Premier. Last season I coxed Club and I hope to be moving up the grades soon. In the School system, students must be at high school (13-19 y/o) and the divisions are age groups as well as U 17 novice. Our National champs are held in March and "Maadi" (or National secondary school champs) are in April. This is my 3rd season coxing and all my friends and everyone who knows me will tell you that I am obsessed with rowing and coxing. That's all I can really think about, I hope to be just talking about all the stuff I do as a coxen in New Zealand and what my crew etc is like. If you have any questions about how we do things in New Zealand then I will be happy to answer them. - bouncyerin
